About BISS

Membership requirements

Criteria for BISS/ISST membership:

  1. A personal sandplay process with ISST member.  A minimum 20 Sandtrays are required before an applicant can apply for BISS training programme. This may or may not constitute a fully completed sandplay process, which has to be agreed with the therapist. 
  2. 150 Hours of theoretical teaching applied to Jungian sandplay practice provided by ISST Teaching members, of which 100 hours have to come from the BISS training course. The remaining 50 may be accrued by attending conferences, events and workshops relating to analytical psychology or Jungian sandplay.
  3. Two written symbol papers, one of which has to contain clinical sandplay material.
  4. A minimum of eighty hours of supervision, of which a minimum of 40 hours must come from individual supervision, and a maximum of 50 supervision hours may be from group supervision.  Group supervision hours can be counted in the ration of 1:5  hours of presenting one’s own sandplay material to 5 hours of attending group supervision.
  5. A final case is required , written and illustrated with images of the client’s sandplay.  This is sent to three readers at least one of whom is from another ISST member society.

ISST membership automatically admits a candidate to the membership of BISS.
