Dr Alexander Esterhuyzen BISS Chair, ISST Vice President (Europe)

Alex Esterhuyzen's interest in Sand play therapy began in the late '70s as a medical student in Cape Town, South Africa. He was introduced to sandplay by Cecil Bernie, a Jungian Analyst and Founding Member of the ISST. 1986 he moved to England to specialise in Psychiatry and train as a Sandplay Therapist and a Jungian Analyst. He worked with Joel Ryce under whom he trained in Sandplay therapy.

He is a Consultant Psychiatrist specialised in Psychotherapy and in Psychiatry of disabilty. Previously Hon Senior Lecturer in Psychotherapy at St George's Hospital Medical School, London, he now works in East Surrey in the NHS and private Practice as a Jungian Analyst and Sandplay Therapist.

His vision for BISS is that it should become a valuable resource for all its members, students and any other people interested in Sandplay Therapy in Britain and Ireland.
